mosaic-1
This is the third post of a series of four from the book of Esther.

In the court of the king’s palace garden were couches of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl, and precious stones. Esther 1:6

A mosaic is a beautiful piece of art constructed from fragments of broken tile, glass, stones and jewels. From a distance the piece is beautiful, but zero in and it doesn’t look so pretty.

It didn’t look so pretty for God’s people when they were slaves in Egypt or when they were exiled to Babylon or when they heard in the Book of Esther that an edict was issued to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews in all the provinces of Persia. (Esther 3:13)

While in Egypt, the Jews didn’t know that God would deliver them. While in Babylon, the Jews didn’t know that they would be freed to go back to Jerusalem, although they would have known if they had listened to the prophet Jeremiah. (Jeremiah 29:10-11) And while in Persia, the Jews didn’t know when they heard of their pending destruction that they would get the upper hand against their enemies and would be delivered. (Esther 9:1)

But we know… We have the privilege of looking back as we read the Scriptures. From our perspective, we see the mosaic. We see a beautiful representation of God preserving His people over and over again with the intention of fulfilling His plan of redemption for us through His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is creating a beautiful mosaic of our lives, as well. If we zoom in to the fragments of the mosaic, like the challenges of our daily lives, it does not look so pretty. But, looking back, we can see the beauty.

How have you seen God’s hand guiding your life as you look back on some of the events leading up to where you are today?

How has God taken the fragments of your life and created a beautiful mosaic?
